  1. An alternate title to Frankenstein is “The Modern Prometheus” because the stories of Prometheus and Frankenstein have very similar themes and ideas. In both stories, one constantly reoccurring theme is that knowledge is pain and brings on constant suffering. For example, in Frankenstein, after learning about love and compassion from watching Felix and his family, It makes it all the more painful being so horribly dejected by them. In Prometheus, Pandora wants to know what is in the box that was given to her, but after she opens it, sickness, pain, worries and more escape from it and makes its way into the human world. Also, in both stories, it is shown that with good comes bad and with bad comes good. For example, in Frankenstein, the creature gains warmth and food from fire but when he reaches his hand into it, he gets horribly burned. In Prometheus, Prometheus gives humans the gift of fire and everyone is happy and developed but Jupiter then punishes them for having gained the luxury that should belong only to the gods. Frankenstein himself is very similar to Prometheus because they both went against the judgments of others to reach their goals. (Frankenstein went against his father and Prometheus went against Jupiter). They also both had pure intentions but were severely punished.
