ReplyDeleteMatchbox Twenty - How Far We've Come
This song gives me a feeling of pride in the accomplishments, events, and people that made an impact on this world:
-Civil Rights Movement
-Moon Landings
-John F. Kennedy's election campaign
-Muhammad Ali
-Pelé
-Women marching for equal rights
-The destruction of the Berlin Wall
and most recently Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton being the democratic candidates for the 2008 presidential election.
It also makes me wonder what I can do to impact this world further. My feelings are not directly related to the lyrics, or completely related to the video. The song by Matchbox Twenty sort of has an indirect effect on me.

ReplyDelete"Safe and Sound" by Taylor Swift
The title of the song suggests that I should feel safe and secure. However, once I hear the song, I feel the opposite. This song really creeps me out. When I hear this song, I feel insecure and unsafe, as if someone was going to suddenly pop up behind me and scare me. This song also makes me feel gloomy and sad. To me, it sounds like a song to the dead. It's as if Taylor Swift is reassuring the dead that they are "safe and sound" and nobody could harm them anymore. Since this song comes from "the Hunger Games" soundtrack, I could understand why this song sounds extremely sad, creepy, and frightening.

ReplyDelete"Welcome To My Life" by Simple Plan
This song makes me feel sad, but in a strangely comforting way. It's difficult when you're depressed to remember that there are people out there who understand what you have gone through, and empathize. It makes me feel less alone when I'm sad; it can also help to indulge just a little that emotion. If nothing else, this song acknowledges that side of you, so that you may move on from sorrow.

ReplyDelete"Mad World" by Gary Jules
I chose this song because it makes me feel depressed and sad, and the lyrics are melancholy as well. When I listen to it, it paints the picture of a dystopian society and uniformity between citizens. The singer, Gary Jules describes the world as mad and also mentions intense emotions of children waiting to be happy.

This song makes me feel calm. The tone is soothing. I think the lyrics are the part that are the most peaceful. The lyrics describe an island. I could actually picture it because of how the lyrics are describing it. The voice of the lead singer is also very calming.

ReplyDelete"Forever Young" by Jay-Z feat. Mr Hudson
This song is about how be young is wonderful and how we all wish we could be young forever. I like this song because i can relate to it. Being young (6-10 years old.) was so much easier than my life is now. I was carefree and happy and did fun things all day. I didn't have to deal with things like staying up all night doing homework or getting up at 6 to go to school. I like this song because it reminds me of my childhood and how happy I was.
I just wanted to put out there, that this song was originally by Alphavilles. Jay-Z edited it and added the rap section. It's still good.

ReplyDeleteSmall Bump by Ed Sheeran
I love this song because for the vast majority of the song, the lyrics are just a parent's devotion to their child. He talks about how he would love the child so endlessly, that the child would his "one and only". But then we hear "You were just a small bump unborn for four months then torn from life". The music to the song is like the heartbeat of the baby. When he sings that line, the beats stop.

The music and the lyrics in this song make me sad but grateful in a way. When I listen to the song, I think of someone suiciding because they did something bad to another person. They can't apologize and feel guilty so they kill themselves. Everytime I listen to this, I feel grateful for the good life I have.

This is a song that made me feel like I can do anything.I don't even understand most of the words-it is in japanese-but I felt like I knew what the message was. When I looked up the translation; I was right. This song is about being you, and not walling yourself up from the outside.Everytime I hear this song, I listen to it at least three times on my Ipod. I always want to sing this song out to the world, and when I'm crossing the quiet street to my home, I often do. Music like this can just be that empowering, that even the barrier of language doesn't get in my way. What I love are the last five lines, which translate to:
"You found and embraced the loneliness within me when I had lost my way,
and told me that it would be fine for me to cry now.
I trained myself to hold in my tears no matter how sad I might feel.
But for all this time, I have always wanted to cry.
I have always wanted to smile freely, without having to put a mask over my heart."

ReplyDeleteSafe and Sound by Taylor Swift
As the title suggest, this song makes me feel safe. From the lyrics, melody, and calm tone I feel like this song could be a lullaby. Something a mother or older sister would sing to a baby. However something about this song makes me feel sad at the same time.

ReplyDeleteThe A Team by Ed Sheeran
this song is about a girl who ruins her life with drugs and alcohol and it makes me feel upset that this is so common in the world, that so many people turn to drugs as an escape from their lives. It also makes me really sad for the girls whose lives should've been full of hope but instead were spoiled by her own actions. The song describes how she used to live in this daydream that the drugs provided her with, but slowly this perfect illusion crumbles away and she is revealed to be her true self - just a lonely girl addicted to drugs.

This song always depresses me because the mixture of the lyrics and musicality always reminds me of things that I have done wrong and weren't able to fix. I tried to fix those things, but knew the whole time that I wouldn't be able to get it done. In the song, the singer asks for forgiveness, but knows the entire time that it is too much to ask and getting it will be very hard. However, at the same time, I feel uplifted from the song. The singer, even though he knows that their relationship cannot last, still declares that he and his lover are one but "with differences". They can still carry each other and work around their differences. This gives me hope that even in the darkest situations, one can always declare a positive resolution, and they can possibly bring positivity onto themselves.

ReplyDeleteHaru Haru (Day by Day) by BIGBANG
This song makes me feel sad, like I'm longing for something. The beat is fast, 126 bpm, but it's sad in a lamenting way instead of a depressed, slow way.
The song is about a boy telling his ex-lover to move on from him, and be happy so that he won't change his mind. He is saying how without her, day by day, he's becoming number and number. Though he is telling her to not have any regrets because he can "bear it in some way," it has almost the exact opposite effect on me. It makes me feel more regretful and guilty.

ReplyDeleteEyes Open by Taylor Swift
This song makes me realize how fast we grow up into a world very different from what we imaged it would be like when we were little. It's so composed of competition and obstacles that sometimes it's hard to catch up with everything that's going on. Listening to this song always keeps me encouraged to keep on going regardless of the difficulties that may be in my way. It makes me feel like I shouldn't let the people who think I can't do something keep me from actually doing it.

This song makes me feel like kind of hyped up and at the same time it speaks to me and lots of people because this song is about how people want you to be someone you cant and how they want to change you when you just want to be yourself and everything you do seems to be wrong and eventually your tired of everything. When you just want them to stop and let you be yourself like me with my parents and how they want me to be someone I'm not. So when i listen to this it makes me feel like that i can really relate to this song and it just gets how I'm feeling.

This song is the theme song for the movie Rocky. While there are very few lyrics in this, it is connected to Rocky, which is a movie that gets you wanting to accomplish something. However, the tune is aso very upbeat and strong. When I hear this, I get inspired to do something important. As I said before, there are very few lyrics, s it is the tune that really carries the feeing through, but the lyrics made a nice accompaniment.

This is one of my favorite pieces both from Bach and any other classical composer I know of. I love this song so much because it feels both sad, happy, hopeful, and hopeless at the same time. Just like real life, many emotions are happening at the same time, and Bach manages to capture this feeling of simultaneous emotions going on at once, while still sounding like a single thought.

This song makes me feel a mix of emotions. At first it makes me feel really relaxed and calm just like one of those songs you listen to when you don't want to do anything but kick back, ignore your homework and do nothing. But after the first few seconds, it makes me feel a little stressed out. Like, "oh no it's 5 O'clock! What did I forget to do for tomorrow? What am I missing??" But the reason for that is because the first time I heard this song, I just put it on replay and heard it non stop while I was pulling my first ever all-nighter when I was in 8th grade to finish a health project. Songs you listen to take you back to that moment in time when you first heard them so when ever I hear this, I'm back to that really stressful night where I had to stay up all night for that project. I really do love this song but every time I listen to it I get that wave of unnecessary stress so I just avoid it now.

ReplyDeleteLes Adieux- Beethoven
This is a piano sonata I'm currently learning. Each movement evokes different feelings, as Beethoven wrote this this piece dedicated to a good friend who left. The first movement, "The Farewell," starts out with a disturbed feeling followed by a recollection of memorable moments of the past. The second movement, "The Absence" has a feeling of solitude and fear. The third movement, "The Return," emits a huge feeling of joy. Beethoven managed to show how he felt when his friend left just through music, and it is easy to feel the heavy emotions throughout the piece and relate to them.

ReplyDeleteHome- Michael Buble
When I listen to this song, I feel a sudden love and affection of everything I have. The way Michael Buble describes his home is amazing. He tells us how he has everything and everyone, but the only thing he really wants is to be at home. This is a nice example of how someone should appreciate the things they already have- like a home. Even if someone really wants something and someone else has it, that someone else who already has it might yearn for the little things that the first person has.

ReplyDeleteThis is some classical music written by a French composer called Saint-Saens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LupmmElMoI It is called Danse Macabre, and I think in a movie, it would fit in to a scene where two friends are forced to fight each other, both being injured by the other, until they eventually realize they're still friends and need to stop.
Itsumo Nando Demo(Always With Me) by Hayao Miyazaki, which was posted by Cindy He.
ReplyDeleteI think the setting best fitting for this song would be in an anime. Real life would work too, but I feel that the effects would be better in an anime (because in anime, you can be totally cheesy and no one cares). The scene would be a young girl - with long hair being blown around her face and body by wind - who would be gazing out at the sea. There would be a beautiful sunset, and a boat slowly disappearing in the distance. When I listen to this song, I always see this image of a young girl watching after someone who is leaving her all alone. In an undertone, it feels as if that girl wants to run after the person who is leaving her by herself, but she is holding herself back because she doesn't want to be a burden.
I actually was looking through the WHOLE list of songs but I just couldn't find one...until the end of the list. Like, maybe I should have just gone to the end of the list and started backwards instead...

This song seems like it would fit well in a montage in which the main character has just been through a traumatizing experience and is reflecting sadly on his life. When I hear this song, I imagine someone walking in Manhattan, while it is raining. The person is thinking about how ruined his life is. Maybe he is staring in some shop windows and sees what a wreck he is in the "reflection" from the glass. That could symbolize how is "reflecting" on himself.

I feel that this song would fit well in a WWII scene were allied soldiers are attacking a villiage held by the germans. At the start, with the angelic choir music (0:15), the Allied soldiers are being pushed back and are dangerously close to being defeated. When the funky music starts(0:25), I can imagine an allied tanks breaking through a wall and procced to attack the axis soldiers. The allied soldiers look out of their cover, and when the song changes again (0:48), they rush out and attack the axis soldiers with the help of the tanks. When once again the song changes (1:28), I can imagine the Axis defense being broken and the germans being pushed back. During the final part of the song in the end (2:00), I can imagine the American flag being raised over the Village during the angelic choir while the Germans flee in the background.

I thought we were supposed to write the hw as if it was a fiction piece. Here's my scene:
It was a very long journey. For four years, Harris has been almost everywhere. He's been to Europe, Asia, even Micronesia. He was exhausted. He shoved his bags into the back of an old Ford truck. The trip back to Kentucky was long and dreary, but now he was back in his home state. He drove from the airport to the interstate highway. The highway ran along the fields of golden wheat and other farms. Occasionally he would see a bright red windmill. Often he would travel near a farm with numerous cows grazing at the large, green pastures. As he got closer to his hometown, he noticed the sun was setting and the sky was displaying an interesting painting of red, orange, and yellow. Finally Harris drove up to a large, wooden, white house. He unloaded his bags from the trunk and felt the sides of his lips turn up into a smile when a woman wearing faded jeans, a red plaid shirt, and a large grin came running up to him. He was finally home.

The scene would start at a small, colorless, tidy apartment where a man is sitting, looking out a window, seeming to be lost in thought. Once the chorus starts playing, he would suddenly stand up and walk out the door. Then, he would start walking down an empty street at a fast pace, ignoring traffic lights until he reaches a telephone booth. He would dial a number frantically, only to hang up immediately once he hears someone pick up, seeming to lose all his courage. After that, he would run inside a deli where he would walk around for a little while. He would stare at pack of batteries for a second then put it in his pocket without paying for it and run out into the streets again. The scene would end with us seeing the man disappearing into the streets while running.

The scene would be at the end of a movie, or at the end of a tv show season right before the credits. The most memorable moments of the movie/series, such as how the characters all meet, and misadventures, are played back without sound. The protagonists then all meet up together, and watching a sunset, marking the end of their journey. They watch this in a location that is memorable, such as a hill or roof where things happened during the movie/season, but still makes the sunset look nice. All the characters are leaning on each other, as a sign of solidarity. Their eyes may be closed to represent content, or open to represent hope. The colors of the scene are bathed by the red/orange of the sunset, and the general mood is content, closure, and happiness. At the very end, they might all get up to leave at slightly different intervals, marking that they still have to go their own paths even though they are all made unlikely friendships.

She's thinking about breaking up with him because she doesn't think she can handle him, but she still loves him. Suddenly, the girl collapses. She had a heart attack and is quickly rushed to the hospital. The man is with her as the medics rush her to the emergency room, but he isn't let into the room. A few hours later, he is informed that the girl didn't make it. The man starts bawling as he feels a ring stuffed in his pocket. I've walked down this street too many times. Everyday was the same routine for me. Wake up at around six, groom myself, walk to my office.
"Hello, Greg."
"Hey, Billy."
"Hi, Jim."
As I walked to work, I must have greeted at least twenty men, to no response, everyday, though with the same expressionless voice. My face could portray this absence of expression. There was no curve in my mouth, neither was there any hint in the gaze of my eyes. Without showing my expression, it wasn't too hard to know how I felt. Everyone felt the same.
There was no color in this life. The only time I could ever feel anything good is when I would dream. I could see myself, or part of myself, just being forced underneath an icy surface of water. It brought a smile to my face, one that is very rare.
I jammed my hands into the pockets, turning into the familiar empty and cracked street. It was not always empty. Children used to play in this street, but as time grew, they seemed to fade away.

The scene starts with a kind of image of a large army, consisting of thousands of warriors, all dressed in rags, scraps, wielding pitchforks, small tomahawks, and daggers. You have the view of the general, who is dressed in the same fashion and you are looking out at your army and across to the other. The other army consists of even more men, all dressed in gleaming silver armor, with shields, swords, spears, axes, and even cavalry. They are lined up in straight rows, while your own army is very messy and disorganized. The battlefield is a flat grassland around dawn. As the battle begins, the ragged soldiers start to transform completely, from having rags to having the same armor and weapons as that of their opponents, and they start glowing red, shouting and yelling. As the song progresses so does the battle, with many men on both sides falling. You (being the general) look around to see the battle. The pause in music is where I would think of the general catching the eye of the other general, and running towards one another. The end of the song illustrates how the two generals clash swords, looking at each other with a few inches between their eyes.

She sat at the edge of the deep blue lake, wearing a white dress covered in flowers. She had a worn out picture in her hands. As she ran her fingers over his face, tears welled up instantly. She allowed her mind to take off, and remembered all the times that she had spent with him. She thought about when he had told her he loved her, and the day that he proposed. She remembered clearly the way that he had asked her out. They had both been at a coffee shop and she had excused herself to go to the bathroom. When she came back, there was a note in her book that said “I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone so extraordinarily beautiful. It would be a shame if I wasted this opportunity, and not introduced myself.” along with his phone number at the bottom. Of course, she called him as soon as possible. Her mind drifted back to reality. She couldn’t fathom that he was actually dead. The man she had grown to love and adore was gone. Her heart physically hurt. She clutched the photo and began crying, praying to whatever god that existed to bring him back. After a while, her heaving sobs seemed to slow to quiet sniffles. She opened her eyes and looked around. The trees were so foreign. She didn’t recognize anything around her. Where was she? How had she gotten her?

The scene I imagine is a apocalyptic scene. The world is overrun with zombies, but there a there is a lone survivor, a teenager. He is discovered by the zombies, and he must fight them off, or flee from them. He chooses to fight them, and while he tries to fight them with his own weapons, he has the upper hand, but just for a while. He fights in an epic fashion; bashes heads, chops limbs, smashes into disintegration, body parts flying everywhere. However, there are too many, and he flees. He fights his way out of the masses of bodies, and sees an escape path. While he flees, he takes down the zombies lingering around the edge of the mass, and makes it out, just to live one more day in this wretched world, even though there is no point trying to survive anymore.

As his army marched into the city, Richard sat upon his horse, leading his men into the captured town. After weeks of endless fighting, they had finally won. The brightly colored troops stood out among the gray, dismal buildings, demanding attention from all they passed. With a grin on his face, Richard rode up to the town square. Sitting straight, with his head held high, and trumpets blaring all about him, he prepared to give his victory speech. Then he heard a shout, followed by screaming. Richard watched as armored riders charged through the town, slaying all in their path. His soldiers were being killed by the dozens, however Richard was not one to stand and gape as his men were slaughtered. He signaled the trumpets to let forth a blast of sound that would tell the men to regroup. Once his scattered, injured men had gathered, he sent them to charge against the unorganized cavalry who were busy slaying civilians and hadn't noticed the soldiers regroup. In a single move, Richard's men massacred half the riders. As the rest of the cavalry fled the city, the soldiers cheered for Richard and his army.

Some things might not have changed at all, but seemed different because the person has changed, not the setting.

The scene has no color, and is completely in grey. The scene starts by panning to the left, where we see deep snow, and one, rickety old house in the middle of nowhere.A young couple has just left their home and are fleeing with what little clothes they can carry. The young woman begins to cry, and the young man wipes away her tears. We see him mouth the words "It will be all right".He turns to look back at their home. We see a flashback to a big town, once prosperous, now in ruin. Buildings are on fire, people are running and screaming, and soldiers are barging into every house. They are looking for something, and if anyone in the house opposes, they are shot. We cut to the young man, even younger now, as a soldier in this war. It starts to rain. Grimancing, he kicks open the door to a small colonial house. Inside is a woman, huddled in the corner with her child. She is crying, and rapidly speaking in another language. The young man hesitates, and motions for the woman to escape. She says a silent thank you, and runs out of the house. The young man sees her get shot in a crossfire, and she falls, dead. We hear the sound of her still-living infant in her cold arms, crying, knowing that something is wrong. We end flashback, and see the couple is now on a train. The war is announced to be over, and the young couple are hopeful for their future. The young man shows the woman two boat tickets to America. They smile, and both look towards the young woman's belly, which now has a small bump of life in it. The color goes from dark to a lighter grey. We then see the young man, in front on top of a big hill with the young woman. They are shaded by a giant tree, and are looking at thier cozy house below. The man excitedly holds the baby, but the woman looks a bit uneasy. She descends the hill, and goes into the house. As soon as she closes the door, we hear a "thump". The man calls to her, and, hearing no response, rushes down the hill, the baby still in his arms. The scene fades as he opens the door.
The scene is filled with color now. The house is slightly larger, and the hill's green grass and sparse, purple flowers are covered by a thin layer of snow. We see the man, a few years older now, come outside with his daughter, a little girl of six. The girl goes to play in the snow, in her bright blue, puffy coat. The man smiles, and sends a hand through his chestnut hair, and then the girl's bright blond hair. He turns and walks up the hill, a beautiful sunflower in his hand. He sat alone, underneath the flowering tree, and placed the flower on a grave at the base of a tree. He sat next to it, watching his daughter from above, and shed a single tear. For an instant, we see a wisp of the woman, embracing her love. The scene fades to a wedding picture of teh couple, a few years earlier, and finally fades to black.

This always makes me picture a girl who is suffering a hard mental defeat after she is hurt by a breakup. She tries to convince herself to become stronger and to stand a little straighter because she's wiser. In the background, one can hear the guy supporting her.
This would be in a scene where it's raining and blowing a harsh wind. A young girl has her head bowed and is going in the same direction as the wind, being pushed in that direction. Towards the middle, she slowly begins to straighten her body and boost her courage. I always see her turning around and facing the wind head on and there's rain blowing into her face but she starts to move forward. In the background, I can see a guy who loves her supporting her with his feelings, though the girl doesn't know.
I guess...that's just the random stuff I see. :3

Early in the morning, a couple is lying in bed. The guy wakes up, wearing a white t-shirt and plaid pajamas, ruffled hair and loving eyes. He sits up and stares at the girl who is sleeping with furrowed eyebrows, pale lips, wearing pajama shorts and a thoughtful expression. The guy stares at her, noticing how beautiful the slight blush on her cheeks compliment her hair. He runs his fingers through his hair, wondering if she knew how he feels about her. Suddenly becoming paranoid, he widens his eyes and thinks about what would appen if she didn't love him back. Deciding to get his mind off things, he goes off to make breakfast. When he comes back, he finds her stirring. He sits beside her and kisses her cheeks softly when she wakes up. Looking into her eyes, he decides to tell her how he feels. I feel like at the end of this, when they look into each others eyes, would be the perfect timing for the song to play.

The scene I imagine is an island where the natives suffer under the boot of cruel pirates. The pirates are drug farmers and slave traders. After years of this, some of the natives sum up the courage to fight back. The peaceful natives, fueled by reclaiming what is theirs, transform into their true selves, audacious warriors covered tattoos and face paint. They raid the pirate camps and burn their drug crops. The natives rebuild the barren empty landscape back into its former self.

ReplyDeleteThe song I chose was Mad World by Gary World. The scene I chose to create with mind was a man in the rain in a black and white scene. The man is walking slowly down Manhattan's streets (preferably near the Downtown high rise buildings), and he is walking at a slow, normal, and calm pace while everyone else is just either hurrying to work or home. This is creating a scene where he tells us to calm down a little, even though that's not what the song is about. I can see a man in his early twenties probably, out alone on a Friday night while his friends are partying around. It's also a very cold, pouring cats and dogs type of setting, and he is wearing a long black coat up to his shoes, wearing a mask-type, eye covering fedora-type hat which is black. I can also see him taking out his phone, recieving texts from his friends like "Where you at?" and Friday-night hype. He ignores them and continues his calm , depressing song.

Since this song has an eerie and even spooky mood addressed by the piano. I picture a guy and his friends who try to prove their "manly" side by going into a haunted house. But as the enter, they all stay quiet. The echoing and boldness of the piano emphasizes the silence and fear they have, along with the amount of dark, unknown open space around them. The guys are only praying that their mysterious tour will soon end.

I can picture a guy and a girl who obviously like each other but they're too afraid to admit to each other, afraid of being hurt once again. I can see a guy is in his dark bedroom, lying down on his bed and looking out his window at the rain. You can barely make out his face, all you see is his silhouette and the screen of his phone, where he is waiting for a call from the girl. Suddenly, the scene changes but the song is still playing in the background, you can see a similar scene, but it shows the girl in her bedroom, sitting on her bed and leaning on the headboard with a dim lamp on. She also is looking at her phone. Waiting for the call.

He saw the barren wasteland, and the half-destroyed brick houses of natives that once lived there. He feels is despair as his comrades slowly exit the vehicle and leave for their mission.
"It's time to go, Billy," his captain said as he patted him on the back. "Stop worrying."
But the thing is, Bill couldn't stop worrying; they didn't know if they would return back to the headquarters the next day. He didn't know how to deal with the debilitating stress that was put on him each and every day. Bill nodded slowly, and began to exit into the broad, dusty wasteland.

The previous scene was of his breakup with his girlfriend who acted almost as his housekeeper. He wasn't always very good to her, and was drunk very often. She had finally ran out the door, yelling at the man. The man is wearing a cheap shirt that is brightly colored, and tattered shorts. There are dirty dishes everywhere, and the trailer is a wreck. There is a beer can next to him, and others litter the floor. It is the late afternoon, abut the time the man usually goes to the bar. He finally takes a sip from the beer, gets up, and exits.

In my mind the beginning is a Journey. A lone viking holds on to the mast of his ship in a storm while his comrades hide below decks. After 1:33 when the music erupts I imagine an army of crystalline white angelic soldiers charging down a mountain onto a plain where an other, darker army is waiting. I don't really imagine the battle close up, more from overhead as the white lines push the dark ones back. The song ends as the white armored soldiers defeat the last dark ones and raise their weapons in the air as triumph.

The unkempt man stood outside the ornate gates to a castle. His fingers slowly brushed over the vertical dusty, silver bars that composed the gate. It was hard to believe that not too long, he lived on the other side of the gate. He was a king; he had absolute power over his people, and perhaps abusing his power was what had gotten him into his current situation. He sighed wearily and closed his eyes. He remembered when his authority made everyone fear and respect him. Then, somehow, he lost his touch and everyone was suddenly against him. Perhaps it was his inability to please everyone - the laws he passed usually only satisfied one group of people. Nonetheless, he was stripped of his crown, his throne, his home. The change was drastic - the man went from being an incredibly powerful human being to a forgotten nobody.
Maybe it was better this way. Now that he was on the outside looking in, he realized that being king meant sacrificing company for power. The village family that took him in when everything went wrong had showed him a side of humanity that he hadn't known for years, even decades.
He laughed bitterly to himself, "I'm not going to Heaven. Isn't that right, Saint Peter?" He looked to the sky, as if expecting a response, and then shook his head. The man walked away for the last time, from the place he once called home, and muttered to himself, "The moment you lose something great, you can never look at it the same again."

The man looks up, meeting warm brown eyes. He sighs and sets down the flowers on the gravestone. "A long five years," the man says, "Without you."

An overwhelming rush of memories overcomes him, which the viewer gets to see as well. He remembers their past dates, efforts to cook, and just simply the times they were together. The boy looks back to the road as the car turns tightly around the winding road. Sunlight filters through the glass, lighting up her face as she loses herself in the moment. As the song continues, butterflies spread to his fingertips and toes as he realizes just how much the girl next to him means to him. Words can't describe how he feels about her, just that everything about their relationship is...simply right.

A flash of blue. He quickly ran after it. Tears flew from his startling blue eyes, flying off of his lightly freckled cheeks as he ran after... after her. His love. His life. His heart. His everything. Why was she doing this? Why was she leaving? What did he do wrong? Why?
He suddenly slowed down. There she stood, in a beautiful bright blue dress and a white cardigan. Her right hand rested on the handle of a small red suitcase. "Melody..."
It was as if everything was in slow motion. The swing of her golden locks as she turned mesmerized him.
"Desmond...," her beautiful voice sang. "What do you want?"
The cruelty and sudden change in her voice shattered his already cracked heart. "Please, Melody, tell me. Why? Why are you leaving?! I thought... I thought you loved me," he sobbed.
She scoffed, turning her head slightly away and looking away, hiding the sadness, pain, and reluctance in her eyes. "Who would want to be with someone like you? No money, no family. You're the last person I would want to be with."
Hurt erupted in his heart and he quickly quieted. After a brief pause, he chuckled. "Hehe, of course. I should've realized you were that type of person. How naive I've been." Before she could react at his sudden change in attitude, he wrapped his arms around her, hugging her firmly but gently. "Thanks."
She didn't know how to respond, puzzled by his actions.
"But before you leave, I have one last thing to say to you..."
She waited patiently, standing in such a way that beauty emanated from her body.
"F*** you." With that, he turned around, and disappeared into the crowd, leaving her to stand in the middle of the street.
A single tear spilled from her eye and slid slowly down her cheek. "... I'm sorry..."

The scene where I imagine this song is where two very close childhood friends (in my head it's a guy and a girl) are about to be separated for a long time. The two friends are now 18 and the guy of the pair is headed off the college whereas the girl is headed off to a year long pre-college trip So they go on one last exploration together on an old trail that they used to go on all the time as kids. Along the trail they find all these old landmarks they've made and objects they've left behind. As they're picking up these objects and playing with them, all these old memories are triggered. Then it kind of flashes back and forth between past and present scenes but they're both doing the same things. The shot then zooms out to show the past scenes as photos that are sitting besides each of the friends. One stack of photos is in a box in the passenger seat of the car that the guy is driving to his college. The girl has fallen asleep on the plane with her purse beside her with the pictures in it.

With a wide, lively smile, he walks out onto the streets and just runs. He runs until he physically cannot go any farther. He enters the nearest coffee shop, buys the largest coffee size they have, and keeps on running. He runs past people, cars, and buses, and he runs to the park. He takes in the sights, the flowers, the trees, picnics, etc. He spends his Sunday taking in and rejoicing the fact that he is alive.

He looks out the window and sees nothing but the cloudy sky. He closes his eyes and remembers all the good times they spent together. He has a flashback to the time when they were at the park on a sunny day, just sitting in the grass. They had a picnic, feeding each other sandwiches. When they finished he just stared into her eyes. She laughed and started to get up when he pulled her down and kissed her on the cheek. Just then, (about the time the drums start to play in the song)he gets out of bed and rushes out of the house to his car. He hurries to her house and knocks on the door impatiently. While waiting, he notices that the moon is out, and most of the clouds have cleared. She then opens the door.
(at about 2:50 in the song)At that moment, he just stares at her. They don't have to say a word to know what they both want. (3:13 in the song) they share a kiss after a long time and intertwine their fingers, holding hands like they used to. Still holding hands, they stare into each other's eyes and that's when the scene/song ends.

She starts to cry thinking of how little time she has left with him, but he holds her face so that she is looking up at him and tells her to not cry even though his eyes were beginning to water. He tells her that tonight isn't going to be their last night together and promises that he will find her no matter where she goes. Scene:
A girl with a suitcase stood motionless on a grassy hill, staring at the old, weathered house next to an oak tree with a wooden swing. The dark, thick clouds loomed above her as she took out an umbrella, preparing herself for the rainstorm. Suddenly, the memories flooded back as it flashed across her eyes like a tidal wave.
She was seven, trapped inside a room and holding an old, torn rag doll. She clung to her doll as her dear life depended upon it. There were voices-loud and angry voices of her parents-that echoed throughout her room.
“Where is that girl?”
“Why can’t she be more like her older sister?”
“What have we done wrong with her?”
She was a freshman at high school; everyone believed she was fine…with a wide and bright smile and a pulled back hair, she was perceived as this enthusiastic, favorable, cheery, and dedicated student. (This was her armor as it protected her from people knowing her true self and helped control her torn and dark emotions that are constantly brewing within her.) Yet every single day, she returned home exhausted and locked herself into the bedroom-only receiving comfort from her old rag doll as she released those bottled emotions.
“One day, we escape from this place, Dolly, and we’ll go somewhere where people will accept us as who we are.” Tears were rolling down her pale cheeks as her eyes were red and puffy from crying.
(Shift back to the present)
The girl turns around and starts walking in the opposite direction, never looking back at the abandoned house. Somehow, she knew that in a far way place, there would be the bright sun and the white clouds dancing in the sky…there would be birds chirping happily and the trees swaying along with the gentle breeze.

A girl in high school likes a boy who in turn likes her as well. However, they never spoke to each other, both believing that neither of them had a chance. She is playing tennis and holds the racket in a ready position to return the servers ball. The boy is on the other side playing basketball with his friends wearing a white shirt and black gym shorts. Between games, the girl would sneak glances at the boy and the boy would in turn sneak glances at the girl but their eyes never meet. They're both thinking about how much they want to be with one another. The scene fades.
They've both just graduated from high school now and going separate paths. They still have not spoken on word to each other and are in a garden in front of their school taking pictures with each of their own friends. The sky is gray and looks about to rain. The boy's parents decide to leave and they walk away from the school as the girl turns and sees him leaving. She stands still and just watches his walk away a few minutes. She then turns and decides to leave as well. She walks with her family in the opposite direction of the boy. Her facial expressions would be very stoic. She would not dress casually unless she was going to bed and her hair would always be pulled back tightly. This is because she can't seem to forget about her past with her serious mother who never had time for her. Then, I would imagine her coming to the realization that she shouldn't be so serious all the time after she meets a nice man. He shows her how to loosen up and she starts dressing more comfortably, lets her hair down more, and starts too look more calm. She smiles more often and learns to let go of her past.

He adjusts his tie one more time. It still hangs crooked, shifted to the left a little, but it doesn't matter anymore. He's running out of time.
He shuts the apartment door gently behind him.
The elevator ride is longer than usual. The man can see his hazy reflection in the glossy wooden panels. His hair is unkempt and his suit is wrinkled. He sighs, runs his fingers through his hair, and walks briskly out of the elevator when the doors move apart.
He checks his watch. He's gonna need to be fast if he wants to arrive on time. He starts to jog, clenching his teeth at the cold breeze that has picked up. It's raining now and he bites back a shout of frustration. His suit is gonna be even MORE ruined than before.
It turns into a full-blown sprint when he realizes how little time he has left. The rain is coming down twice as hard and he's soaked now, from his formal leather shoes to his messy hair. He can feel salt on his lips, streaming down from his cheeks. Noise seems to swell around him and he actually screams this time, crying out amongst the honking and rushing of water in the street and the wind howling. He drags his hand across his eyes. It's because the rain is in his eyes, he tells himself. It's just because of that.
He stumbles across the street on a red light. A car swerves around him, tires screeching and a woman cursing at him as he grunts in pain. He has twisted his ankle, but he keeps limp-running towards the church.
Finally, he's there. Grains of rice and white flowers are all over the ground. He chokes back a sob and pushes the doors open slowly, leaning his weight against the heavy church doors. No one's inside. A slip of crumpled paper falls out of his pocket as he collapses on a pew four feet away from him. She's gone. She cannot be his anymore. He looks down at his watch. The face has cracked.
He's out of time.

The cops split up and search staircases and rooms one by one, each one of them with a tense emotion. They get closer and closer to finding the kidnappers, they skip through the halls with quiet steps. The cops plan an attack, and then fought hard, the air became still and silence once again was present. The kidnappers were defeated and arrested, and the victim was rescued, as he thanked the cops with tears of relief in his eyes.

ReplyDeleteOn the Brightside by Nevershoutnever
There's a teenage boy alone in his house and it is cloudy outside. He's sitting on the gray couch and staring out the window, motionless. As the song progresses, the sun begins to shine from behind the clouds and he drags his feet as he walks outside to a bright green meadow spotted with red, pink, yellow, and purple flowers. A group of his friends are waiting for him. At this point, the sky is clear blue. They bite their lips, and take time to phrase their question properly, "Are you feeling better now?" The friends hold their breath while they wait for his reply. The boy breaks out into a smile, looks up at his friends and says "Yeah, she treated me like crud anyways." The group of friends exhale and embrace him as they all walk away together talking and laughing with a new bounce in their steps.

He was sitting on the edge of a sofa, black shirt and pants on. He had a cigarette in his right hand, and it was slowly burning off, but he didn't care to look at it. He was just staring blankly at the ground. It was winter time, and the room was freezing. He was so distracted that he didn't even realize it was cold. He just couldn't believe his ill fate. He had been fired from his job, and his girlfriend had broken up with him the same day, both without a reason. He could care less about his job, but he just couldn't accept the absence of his beloved girlfriend. He stood up, and slowly walked into his bedroom. As he looked at the bed, he just couldn't take it anymore. He knelt down and cried his heart out. He knew well what was about to happen, but he wasn't sure.
What if she came back?
But no, he decided he would do it anyway. He walked out of the bedroom, and into his living room. He looked around at everything. He had already lost value of all their memories that was lying around. As he walked into the kitchen and picked up the biggest knife nearby, he whispered, "I hope you find true love, Natalie".
His body was found three days later by his girlfriend.
She had come back for him.

ReplyDeleteOne Tin Soldier by The Legend of Billy Jack
ReplyDeleteThere is a way that people come together on rare occasions, bound by emotion too strong to be borne alone. The villagers stare blankly at ground soft and red with blood and bodies, too many to be counted. A lone flag, torn and broken, flutters momentarily, then goes still. The survivors huddle, together, yet somehow isolated, in the aftermath. One breaks off, stumbling unsteadily up the hilltop. A piece of earth crumbles off underneath her feet, and she tumbles a few yards before skidding to a halt and beginning to ascend again. Curiosity that would once have been overwhelming is now dulled, flat almost, but still prevalent. She runs her gnarled fingers over the huge rock at the center of the hilltop, spotted with lichen and weathered with time, said to conceal the greatest treasure of them all. Calling out to the others, she motions for them to assist her, and some come to help. As they strain to move the rock, grunts and intakes of breath plume and crystallize in the frigid air. Abruptly the rock teeters and falls to its side. Eyes wide and eager, the villagers all gather at where the rock was covering. The hole is shallow and empty. Shaking, the old woman goes to the rock, leaning her head against it, only to notice words carved on the bottom, and begins to wipe away the centuries of accumulated dust and grime. Scratching away, her nails now broken and filthier than before, she takes a step back to admire her handiwork, amid the survivors shutting out the blood and bodies and dying screams of soldiers too young for their life to be ended by Fate's hand.
Peace on Earth, was all it said.
