This is a really good breakdown of the "women in comedy problem" by Lindy West:

Also, this is a fantastic piece written by the director of Bridesmaids (a man!) about Why Men Aren't Funny, in response to the thing we read earlier. Seriously, everyone read it:

Anita Sarkeesian has a new video! This one shifts away from the damsel in distress trope, and focuses on the trope of female characters being variations of default male characters. It's really interesting, thoughtful and well-put-together and everyone should watch it!

This isn't really related to anything we've been talking about recently, but a little while ago a woman named Michelle Cottle wrote a ridiculous article in Politico calling Michelle Obama a "feminist nightmare," which MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry took down brilliantly on her show. One of the things she said in the course of this take-down was that seeing as Cottle clearly knew nothing about black feminism, she would be happy to send her a reading list. Earlier today, she made good on that promise and published a syllabus, which I'll link to here: http://www.msnbc.com/melissa-harris-perry/mhps-reading-list-black-feminism
