So, about my minutes gift, "Where Are the Stars":

The song is based on Knite, a comic by Wenqing Yan (yuumei), a recent graduate from UC Berkeley.

She started Knite in 2010 and it's been slowly worked on. I suppose the best way to describe it would be a statement about how we're slowly destroying the environment with industry, as represented by the missing stars outshined by city lights, though it goes deeper than that and explores a couple of other themes: family and introspection come to mind. So far, it has four chapters and a handful of extra shorts and one-shot drawings.

At some point, a fan of Knite, geo1992, created and played the instrumental for the song and wrote the original lyrics, but he didn't sing them at all. I'm pretty sure he didn't write a vocal melody either.

Another fan of Knite, KEIreland, found geo1992's instrumental and lyrics, adapted the lyrics and created her own melody for the vocals. Then she sang it, of course, and that's what I presented today.

I also considered playing "The New Millenium" sung by Kagamine Len, a Vocaloid, or computer-generated singer. I decided against it since you really need the video to get the whole message of the song and hauling my laptop to school would be too much of a pain and it would take too much class time. The fact that it's in Japanese doesn't help much either. Still, it's worth listening too, as long as you have annotations on so you can read the subtitles. It makes a great statement about the selfishness and lack of compassion of mankind.
