Summer Reading List

I wrote a list of books that I think you might like.  Some are on my reading list for this summer.  The others are some of my recent favorites.  If you have any books that you'd like to share, please contribute to the comment section!

Ferencz’s Summer Reading List

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nahisi Coates
Constructed as a letter to his son, Coates explores racism in the United States in a modern context.

*Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Leguin
A sci-fi masterpiece about a society without sexual prejudices.

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
Terrifying.  Redefines the novel in all conceivable ways.

The Lost City of Z by David Grann
Grann retraces the steps of ill-fated explorer Percy Fawcett and his search for the Amazonian “City of Z”.

*Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi
The story of a secret book club in Tehran where professor and students read and analyze forbidden Western novels.

*The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Sloot
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor black tobacco farmer whose cells—taken without her knowledge in 1951—became one of the most important tools in medicine, vital for developing the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping, and more.

Girl in a Band by Kim Gordon
Kim Gordon, founding member of Sonic Youth, fashion icon, and role model for a generation of women, now tells her story—a memoir of life as an artist, of music, marriage, motherhood, and independence.

*These books are on my summer list.  I’ll be reading them for the first time this summer.
